Social Media - The Power It Holds...

In today’s world we have a huge range of online media types in our hands to use. The way in which people use these types of media is different. A survey was recently done asking participants “Thinking about the five types of media, select the one that best fits each description below”

First of all, you can see that traditional media is the least annoying to use. This may be for many reasons such as its clear content & It is also seen as the best choice for keeping up to date with politics and political issues. The recent rise of “fake news” could also be involved as this type of news is often online/social.

Social Media makes up all the other attributes options in the survey. Most entertaining, one people couldn’t live without and the one people spend the most time with. Social media sites like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter etc fulfil almost all other general uses of the online media experience. These kinds of sites can now pretty much anything a user wants, you can now go onto Facebook and do some shopping whilst keeping in touch with friends & family. Twitter & Instagram allows you to follow your favourite celebs/idols in a way no other media would allow you to.

In summary social media is huge, I’m sure you don’t need me to tell you that as pretty much everyone in the UK has used some form of social media, sometimes without even knowing (YouTube is classed a social media site). The power and influence social media have on todays world is beyond thinkable, who knows what the future holds but I can almost guarantee social media will hold a big influence on that.

Instagram has released its much-anticipated video platform

Instagram has released its much-anticipated video platform.

This new app will make it possible for all users to upload hour-long video content that will live within the app on its new IGTV platform and a newly launched IGTV standalone app.

The Facebook-owned company announced IGTV during an event in San Francisco in June, also sharing the news that the social media site has reached 1 billion users.

“On Instagram, people are watching 60 percent more video than they did just last year. An entirely new category of video now exists, and it’s being made by creators. Teens may be watching less TV, but they’re watching more creators online”. said Instagram CEO Kevin Kevin Systrom

The IGTV video content is optimized to fit how users watch video on their phones. Content will start playing as soon as a user clicks on the TV-shaped icon within Instagram or opens the IGTV app.

“The launch of IGTV is really exciting because it now means that Instagram covers all the bases. Influencers will be able to post photos and videos to their feed, make Stories that last for 24 hours, stream live videos and make these new 60 minute TV shows,” says Brooks. “It also means that influencers will no longer need to redirect their audiences to YouTube, they will be able to post all of their content in one place. I imagine that if an influencer has been considering starting a YouTube channel, this update might persuade them otherwise.”

The IGTV platform within Instagram and standalone app began rolling out globally in June on Android and iOS, and, according to Instagram, should be available to all users over the next few weeks.

Ansar Ali wins Prestigious Oldham Business Award

Press Release 15.05.18

Ansar Ali was named 'Business Person of the Year' at the Gala Dinner event at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in Oldham on the 11th of May 2018.

Ansar Ali is the Business Development Manager of the well established design and marketing agency in Oldham called 'dsgnuk'. Ansar Ali along with Kabir Ahmed founded the business in 2008. Both of them use to work together in Tesco Supermarket and travelled to University together studying design.

An emotional Ansar Ali said "Back in 2002 we use to drive to University and talk about one day opening our own design business in Oldham, we wanted to do something different; something that wasn't done before in our community. It was only an idea and we never thought we would manage it forget winning an award!"
Kabir Ahmed, co-founder of dsgnuk said "This is a proud moment for everyone at dsgnuk, he has an excellent team behind him and his work ethic is second to none, he thoroughly deserves this recognition."

Ansar was up against some stiff competition in his category, the ever enthusiastic Frank Rothwell from Portcullis, the veteran and millionaire who was on Bear Grylls survival show 'The Island.' Frank later came over and congratulated Ansar on his win.

The event was at its 10th year anniversary and is the envy of the North West; one of the best attended and prestigious business awards. The event was attended by over 600 business guests and was sold out one month prior to the event. It was hosted by arguably the best British impressionist and impersonator Rory Bremner. Making the audience laugh with his impersonations of Donald Trump and lightening the mood and tension between each award category.

It was also a very emotional night as Ansar broke down in tears after his name was announced and a flood of local business people, friends and colleagues went over to congratulate him from the audience. Dave Benstead HR Director at Diodes Semiconductors PLC who was also awarded the Life Time Achievement award on the night said "Ansar is a brilliant young man and this award has been a long time coming, I am really happy for him and he is an excellent role model for young aspiring business men and women in Oldham and beyond."

Ansar Ali has made history by being the first person of Asian ethnic background to win this important award. However, he is not new to winning awards as he has previously won the Technology Business of the Year at the Asian Business Association awards in 2006 and also was named Emerging Business Leader at the Oldham Mayors Business Charity Ball in 2015.

Twitter is working on a Snapchat-style video sharing tool

Twitter Inc. is working on a new Snapchat-style feature that makes it easier to post videos on the social-media company’s app, according to people familiar with the matter, aiming to attract more users and cement a nascent turnaround.
The San Francisco-based company has a working demo of the camera-centered product, according to people who have seen it, but the design hasn’t been finalized, nor has the timing of its debut. The tool could change significantly over the next several months, they said, asking not to be identified because the product hasn’t been publicly disclosed. The goal of the new feature is to entice people to share video clips of what’s happening around them. Twitter declined to comment.

End of Re-marketing?

Is Google phasing PPC re-marketing out?

Today Google have announced that they are expanding the number of places where it’s “Mute this Ad” option will be available. It will also be applying “Mute this Ad” across devices. Once a user tells Google they don't like an ad, Google will stop displaying it across all the devices that user is logged into.

Perhaps more worryingly, the search giant also announced that it is adding a new feature to Ads Settings that will specifically let users “mute” remarketing ads.

Referring to remarketing ads as “reminder ads”, Google explained:

Reminder ads like these can be useful, but if you aren't shopping for Snow Boot Co.'s boots anymore, then you don't need a reminder about them. A new control within Ads Settings will enable you to mute Snow Boot Co.'s reminder ads. Today, we're rolling out the ability to mute the reminder ads in apps and on websites that partner with us to show ads. We plan to expand this tool to control ads on YouTube, Search, and Gmail in the coming months. For more information about this new control, check out our Help Center article.

What does this mean for the future of re-marketing?

Importance of Being Online

One of the first thing's a potential customer looks into before contacting a business is their website, and if you don't have one they simply won't find you.

To the vast majority of businesses, the idea of not having a website will seem alien – but it’s still the case for many businesses, even in 2017!

Often a business will seek to make the quickest solution to get their business present on Google and just simply leave it there without keeping it fresh and updated. How many times have you gone on to a website to realise the material is 2/3 years old? or the website just simply isn't user friendly anymore. If your site is like this it can have a huge affect on whether or not the potential customer chooses you, without updated content the user simply doesn't have a reason to come back to your site and therefore you will be easily forgotten.

Investing in a well built website is one of the key principles for any start up now, but it is also vital that older businesses stay modern and also maintain their website. We often hear customers tell us they don't need a site, they're already busy but below are just a few reasons why a well built website can have a greater impact on your business as a whole:

  • Engage customers

Keeping a website fresh and up to date gives your customers a reason to come back to your website frequently, therefore when they do need a service you provide, you will be at the top of their mind.

  • Build an online presence

No matter which industry you operate in, there is always competition so it is important to have an online presence for your business to help you stand out from the crowd. This is vital in ensuring customers find you, gone are the days where someone will pull out the phone book, instead a simple search gives them hundreds of businesses and if your not online that's one more customer you've missed.

  • Deliver a sense of trust

Customers are more likely to trust your business if you have a website, they can see you have invested into your brand and they can instantly have a better understanding of who you are and it gives them an easy method of contacting you.

  • Establish a credible reputation

Testimonials/reviews can be added to the website to help improve credibility. This is a fantastic method of showing potential clients you are trustworthy and have experience in the industry.

All of the above show key elements that make a website successful. A website is usually your first point of contact with customers, therefore this immediately gives the customer insight into how your company is set up and operates.

At dsgnuk, we analyse your business & your competitors, this is vital in ensuring you get the very best response possible from your site. Want to discuss anything i've talked about? Simply get in touch!
